How to Enjoy Miami on a Budget - Day 4

Washington Avenue, murals, sculptures, and THE CUTEST Cuban sandwich shop. Ever.

Hey, y’all! I’m just back from a second trip to Miami, almost a year apart. If you’re finding this article, I highly recommend you read How to Enjoy Miami on a Budget blog and Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 first to get a solid overview.

We tend to pack some healthy snacks, water and protein bars to fill in for breakfast or random hungry moments (you know the ones, where you don’t feel like leaving your hotel room to get something).
Day 4 overview:

•  Lunch at Cubaton Sandwich Shop

•  Walk on Washington Avenue

•  Quick last night dinner at Pizza Bar

OK, let’s dive in!

Cubat0n Sandwich Shop

You can’t go to Miami and not get a Cuban sandwich (at least, hubby cannot). I’m not a super fan of that kind of sandwich, but I know he is and wanted to find as local of a place as possible (think neighborhood gem). I think we hit the jackpot with this shop!

It was an unassuming corner spot tucked down a side road. I think it does excellent takeout business if what I saw while there is any indication. It was ran by two local ladies who were quite personable. Hubby got the classic Cubano (authentic), and I got the turkey (delicious). One thing I would point out is that we each got a bag of chips, and it was not necessary. They serve a small side of matchstick chips with the sandwiches. For the 2 sandwiches, 2 chips and 2 strawberry lemonades, the cost was just under $43. It is located at 413 15th Street.

Washington Avenue

OK, there are some seedy areas if I’m honest. However, I loved grabbing a few great mural pics on the walk back to the hotel. I wish I could have seen more of this street, but it didn’t really fit this visit.

Quick Bite at Pizza Bar

We were kind of tired this afternoon and just kind of relaxed. I read on the hotel room balcony while listening to the ocean. Around 7:15pm, we got hungry and decided it was best to grab something super quick. The Pizza Bar was literally a few hundred feet from the hotel, so that was where we landed.

They boast a neon sign that boldly says Size Does Matter and advertised they have the largest slices/pies in town. Outside of the surprise of a slice ringing in at $10.40, I can verify that 1 slice took up 2 paper plates. Yep, it’s true. It is located at 1627 Collins Avenue.

Y’all, we got to enjoy the coolest day/evening of the HOT and HUMID time in Miami!
