Two Days in Seattle - Day 2

Day 2 of Seattle - walking around and taking in the sites!

A full day of exploration.

Today's Highlights:

  • The Gum Wall
  • Park Near the Space Needle - Sculpture, Amazing Architecture
  • Happy, Happy Flowers

We went to the famous Pike Place Market, Pike Place Market which was neat, but if I am honest, I could have skipped. We saw the fish tossers, but they were not as animated as I've seen them on TV. I guess If I were on TV I'd amp up my show too, so no hate there. The gum wall is right there as well, down stairs. It was equal parts fascinating and disgusting. I regretted not having thought to bring gum to chew and stick, participating in the phenomenon. If you haven't heard of it *********************

We then took the One Line to the Monorail and then to the Space Needle area. There were parks, plants, fountains, large sculptures, interesting architecture. The coolest building was the https://www.mopop.org/ Museum of Pop Culture designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. It features a striking, deconstructivist style with crinkled metallic surfaces in blues and purples, which I learned was inspired by Jimi Hendrix’s smashed guitar. We just looked up at it in awe - as you moved around, and depending on how the sun would hit it, the colors would seem to change. We didn't have time to go in but it's said to have over 85,000 artifacts from music and film.

.

Over in the park area, there were some cool sculptures like this one that looks like humongous PVC pipes.

And this one made out of rachet straps that look like they've been crocheted.

There's also Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibit in the area of the Space Needle featuring the work of Dale Chihuly. I'm a long time fan of his work, but we only had time for the gift shop. I did find a shirt that needed to come home with me :)

We found lunch at the Armory https://seattlecenter.com/explore/food-and-drink an iconic building with several food stalls and open seating.

We headed back to the pier area and walked in, out, and around several of them and spent the afternoon enjoying the breeze, the sunshine, and the gorgeous flowers! Look at these happy happy flowers!
