Two Days in Seattle - Day 1
Day 1 of 2 days in Seattle before a 10 day Alaskan Cruise. We'll talk transportation, The Art of Henry, and some delicious cookies.
Day 1
Seattle was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. From my perspective, and hearing about the state of the city on the news: the rebellions against the police, the activism, and the homeless folks, I had pause at the thought of spending a couple of extra days there. But, having the knowledge ahead of time, coupled with staying vigilant, aware of our surroundings at all times, and being back at home base before dark, we found it to be easily manageable.
Today's highlights:
• The One Line Light Rail for Transportation
• The Seattle Waterfront Marketplace
• Get Baked Seattle
Once off the plane, we took the One Line, Seattle's light rail from the airport to Pioneer Square. It was about an hour commute heading north from the airport. It was easy, the train station was right on the other side of the baggage claim area, and it was $3 per person (VS a 50$+ Uber ride into the city). We felt safe and got to see some of the city (and the traffic we avoided). WIN.
We stayed at the Best Western Pioneer Square, which was a good central location. It was an easy walk to both the pier waterfront area and the train station. We enjoyed the light rail so much we went back and purchased a day ticket and met friends for dinner the first evening.
We found a cute artisan market called Seattle Waterfront Marketplace. The art that stuck my fancy was THE ART OF HENRY - Home In looking him up, I found he is noted as Seattle's most prolific muralist. His site states "Henry's goal is to promote joy and happiness throughout the world with his public art works." Indeed, his art made me smile. I also learned about a really interesting art project he has where, beginning in 2025, the artist will paint One Thousand Sasquatch Heads on garage doors, walls, homes, and public spaces across the Pacific Northwest. Over 1500 home owners and businesses have already signed up to participate in what has been called the most expansive public art project in the Pacific Northwest. You can learn more here 1000 Sasquatch Heads - THE ART OF HENRY and follow his progress here https://www.facebook.com/henrybeyondmuseums .

We found a snack at Get Baked Seattle. The sign had us at "Warm Cookies". When we entered, the owner told us about the Best Banana Pudding in the Pacific Northwest. He then explained that they used a high quality protein powder in all their goods. So for a moment, you have that thought of, "Oh, it's a HEALTHY snack" Well, yes, we'll have both, please! I chose the "You're Killing Me Smalls" cookie complete with marshmallows and ginger cookie on top. A cookie for my cookie? Of course! Both were very good and I'd say the banana pudding rivaled some of the best southern potluck church dinner banana pudding's I've had in my life. Good stuff. And I know a good blogger would take pictures of the food before she began devouring it. But. It's me, Joy.
