Maine in May - 5 Days in Maine 2023 - Day 4

Live Free or Die!

Day 4

Hey, y’all!

Here we are on Day 4 of Maine in May. If you are just now seeing this, please go back and read through Day 3 to catch up!

Today, we had a very full day (by design), got to see more of New Hampshire and basically leave the coastline.

Day 4 overview:

•  Portsmouth, NH to Mason, NH

•  Mason to Brookline

•  Brookline to Meredith

•  White Mountains and Conroy

Let’s get into it!

Mason

We took quite a drive over to Mason to have a breakfast experience. Parker’s Maple Barn is out in the country. It is not only a cool place to go eat breakfast, but it is an experience. I’m sharing a few pictures of the food and a few pictures of buildings on the property. We really enjoyed walking around and getting the fresh air!

PS-Alex’s breakfast was baby back maple glazed ribs with eggs and potatoes.

Brookline

A short drive took us over to Brookline, NH where we visited a local lake. It was interesting to see several people out in bathing suits trying to soak up a bit of sun (it was quite windy and in the 60s).

The Potanipo Lake is part of the New Hampshire Fish & Wildlife Department and offers boat access. I have notes saying that it is a local, semi-private beach. Look at how clear and beautiful it is:

Obviously, there is a draw for covered bridges in this area of the country, and we found the first one close to the lake by surprise.

The Nissitissit Covered bridge is located on Mason Road and is a walking bridge that spans 110’ across the Nissitissit River.

Meredith

Next stop: a local winery. We were able to arrive at a quiet hour, try a variety of wines and enjoy great conversation.

Before leaving, we walked through the town and checked out some of the shops. It is a beautiful town :)

White Mountain and Conroy

On the drive to this area, we found a beautiful land preserve and stopped in to walk around.
Chocorua Lake Conservancy (CLC) is a nonprofit land trust founded in 1968. CLC owns and manages 800 acres of conservation land across 17 properties and protects 2,500 additional acres through perpetual conservation covenants and easements on over 100 properties.

As we drove on (another reason why I love to advocate for road trips), we found another covered bridge. Of course, we got out, walked it and took some pics :)

I was really hopeful that we would be able to see some moose while up in this part of the state, but unfortunately, all we got to see was this sign:

Finally, we arrived in White Mountain. Can you imagine how beautiful this would be in the fall? That is still a bucket list trip on our list. Regardless, the scenery was beautiful to behold. Did I mention how fresh the air was?
