Day 6

Hey, y’all! We are reliving the memories from our trip just over a year ago. If you’re finding this article, we highly recommend you read Follow Our Ireland Road Trip blog through Day 5 first to get caught up.

Day 6 overview:

•  Tour Marble Arch Caves
•  Dinner at Angie’s New Haven Pizza
•  Pub hopping at Pat’s and Granny Annie’s

OK, let’s dive in!

We enjoyed a “sleep in” day and almost missed the breakfast we had planned at the Bees Knees (what a super cute name!). However, we did just skate by and we took advantage of their walk-up window to place our order :)

After breakfast, we got in a bit of exploring; Enniskillen is just a cool town. Take a look at the cool murals and homey decorations that adorn the lamp posts!

Marble Arch Caves

We absolutely did not regret this tour! It was the first cave tour outside of the U.S. for all of us.

This cave is a major tourist attraction, set in the picturesque foothills of Cuilcagh Mountain. This is just a short journey from the island town of Enniskillen in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.

The landscape encompassing the caves was formed over 340 million years ago. Today, this natural environment of caves, rivers, mountains, ancient woodlands, waterfalls and gorges offer an opportunity for visitors to enjoy the incredible range of activities and experiences.

A few specific notes:

•  We went in July of 2024 and the crowds were not bad at all (bonus)
•  Always have good tennis shoes and bring a sweater/jacket (it does get chilly)

On our way out, we noticed this cool marker in the parking lot. Of course, we had to check it out. It turned out to be a marker for the National Cycle Network (NCN).

The NCN is a UK-wide network of signed cycling, walking and wheeling routes that total over 12,000 miles. It was established by the charity Sustrans to encourage cycling and walking throughout the UK. The network includes traffic-free paths, disused railways, minor roads, canal towpaths and traffic-calmed routes in towns and cities.

In Ireland, the NCN is set to expand to a proposed 3,500km, connecting over 200 villages, towns and cities.

Location: 43 Marlbank Rd, Enniskillen BT92 1EW.

Angie’s New Haven Pizza

Fancy lunch or dinner? This is your spot to get amazing pizza, take in the cool décor, ponder the meaning of a very specific print on the wall and enjoy sweet tunes!

It seemed to us to be a bit off the beaten path, but it is so worth it.

Location: 48 Cornagrade Rd, Enniskillen BT74 6DX.

   Portrait or paintbrush??

Pat’s & Granny Annie’s
While there were a few options to choose from pub wise, we decided to go to Pat’s. We had a great time here and Mikey wound up striking up a conversation with a local guy his age. The summer Olympics were telecasted, and we enjoyed the swimming from a cozy round table in the corner.

After leaving Pat’s, we had to go back to Granny Annie’s before leaving town. This time, we sat in the back and had lots of laughs and took several silly pics. We all had a great last night in Enniskillen!

Location: Pat’s-1-5 Townhall Street Granny’s-11-13 Townhall Street.

We want to give kudos to our Air BNB in Ennskillen. We had not originally planned to stay in that town, but Londonderry didn't have any lodging for us. But what a wonderful pleasant surprise the town turned out to be! It was on a working farm so we didn't have a lot of interaction with the hosts, but they had everything setup so nice - clean, modern, well-appointed. Most importantly, this one did have a full washer and dryer (instead of one of those combination deals that we have grown to hate).
Check it out here Home in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh.
