Follow Our Ireland Road Trip - Day 1

Flying to Ireland 3 aisle seats, 1 window!

Day 1

Hey, y’all! We just recently celebrated the 1-year anniversary of this trip by talking through some of the memories. If you’re finding this article, I highly recommend you read the Follow Our Ireland Road Trip blog first to get a solid overview.

I’m not sure what kind of planner you are, but I can tell you that we tend to be big planners of our travels. We do tend to “free flow” certain days domestically, but when it came to this trip, we planned something every day so we could really enjoy Ireland as much as we possibly could.

OK, let’s dive in!

Travel Day

You may think at first glance that there is not much to be said for just a plain old travel day. We would say that is generally the case (if you exclude the prep), however, not so with international flights!

And, as a quick flashback, our travel day immediately followed the CrowdStrike debacle that had left several of our travelling friends stranded just a few days prior to our departure. Thankfully, we had no delays or issues, but were any of you impacted by it?

Getting back to international travel, we find it much more important to plan for comfort across the board. Please tune into our podcast for Ireland Day 1 to hear some personal sidebars, but I’ll share some details that helped to ensure a smoother flight experience.

•  Have a tried-and-true carry-on bag that fits you
o  Do you care if it will be required to go overhead?
o  Does it allow you enough space if it is at your feet?
o  Is it easy to carry?
o  Can you organize all of your things in it?

•  Pack some preferred snacks in your carry-on bag

•  Wear comfortable clothes

•  Consider compression socks

•  Have a VERY GOOD PILLOW that will encourage sleep (this helps with time transition)

If you don't have a good pillow and sleep on the plane, you might be this guy on day 2:
